STAIRS was the pioneering organisation in India to introduce the concept of grassroots sports development with its ‘Khelo’ program, launched in 2001. The Khelo program was a groundbreaking initiative that recognised every child’s right to play. It was specically designed to provide underprivileged youth with free access to sports equipment, infrastructure, and space. This program aimed to break down barriers and create opportunities for all children to engage in sports.

In 2005, STAIRS set up its rst centre with the launch of the Khelo Delhi program, oering football, volleyball, cricket, and Sepak Takraw. This initiative provided structured sports activities and facilities for youth in Delhi. The program expanded in 2011 with a collaboration with Uex Ltd, India’s largest exible packaging company, resulting in the launch of Uex Khelo Dilli. This partnership aimed to provide space, infrastructure, and sports equipment free of cost to less fortunate children. Over 5,000 children across Delhi regularly played at 29 Uex STAIRS centres strategically established near their communities.

Furthermore, STAIRS was the rst organisation to initiate a state-based sports development program, starting with Khelo Mahaotsav in Himachal Pradesh. This program saw signicant participation from talented youth, demonstrating STAIRS’ commitment to nurturing sports talent nationwide.

Uflex Khelo Dilli is a sports initiative that acknowledges ever child’s right to play. It is designed especially for underprivileged youth with the aim to provide them free access to sports equipment, infrastructure and space. While encouraging children to just play, Uflex Khelo Dilli identifies and acknowledges their hidden talents and provides a platform for exhibiting them.

  • It is a philanthropic endeavour jointly undertaken by Stairs and Uflex, India’s largest flexible packaging company. The aim of the programme is to provide free of cost – space, infrastructure and sports equipment to the less fortunate children of the society, to play.
  • It was conceptualised in 2011 with the objective is to infuse fun in playing, inculcate passion for sports and competition. More than 5,000 children across Delhi are regularly playing at 28 Uflex Stairs centres which have been established near the colonies where these children reside. Today, these centres have emerged as a hub of recreation for children from poor families and ignited passion as is evident from increasing number of children getting enrolled at these centres.
